Requirements
- Memorize Psalm 119:9.
Answer: Psalm 119:9 says: "How can a young person keep their way pure? By living according to your word." It teaches that we keep our lives clean and our hearts pure when we obey God's Word, the Bible. — The verse links the idea of purity (cleanliness) of the body and heart to obedience to God's Word.
- What hygiene care should we take with:
- The fingernails;
- The toenails;
- The toes;
- The ears;
- The nose;
- The hair;
- The skin;
- The private parts.
Answer: 1) Fingernails: cut them short and straight, wash underneath them, and don't bite them. 2) Toenails: cut them straight so they don't grow in, and keep them clean. 3) Toes: wash and dry well between them so you don't get athlete's foot. 4) Ears: wash the outer part with soap and water; never push a cotton swab or objects inside. 5) Nose: clean it with a tissue, blow gently, and wash your hands afterward. 6) Hair: wash it with shampoo, comb it, and check that there are no lice. 7) Skin: take a bath, use soap, and dry well. 8) Private parts: wash them every day with water and mild soap, dry well, and wear clean underwear; only the person themselves takes care of these parts. — Each part of the body collects dirt and germs, so it needs the right kind of cleaning to avoid illness and bad smells.
- Name three important occasions when we should wash our hands.
Answer: Three important times to wash your hands: 1) before eating or preparing food; 2) after using the bathroom; 3) after playing, handling animals, or touching dirty things. (It's also good to wash after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.) — Washing your hands at these times removes germs and keeps us from getting sick.
- Demonstrate the proper technique for brushing your teeth, gums, and tongue. Demonstrate how to use dental floss.
Answer: With the help of an adult: 1) put a little toothpaste on the brush; 2) brush your teeth on the outside and inside with gentle movements from top to bottom; 3) brush lightly over your gums and the chewing surface; 4) brush your tongue slowly to remove germs; 5) spit and rinse your mouth; 6) with a piece of dental floss, carefully go between each tooth to remove food; brush in the morning and before bed. — Brushing and flossing remove food bits and prevent cavities and bad breath.
- Demonstrate the most appropriate way to take a bath.
Answer: With your privacy respected and the help of an adult when needed: 1) wet your whole body with lukewarm water; 2) put soap on from head to toe, not forgetting behind the ears, neck, armpits, feet, and private parts; 3) wash your hair with shampoo and rinse well; 4) rinse off all the soap with water; 5) turn off the shower to save water; 6) dry your body with the towel, especially between your toes, and put on clean clothes. — A good bath cleans the whole body, removes germs, and leaves us smelling fresh and healthy.
- Know how many glasses of water you should drink per day and why this is so important.
Answer: In general, it is recommended to drink about 6 to 8 glasses of water a day (more when it's hot or when we play and exercise a lot). Water is important because it hydrates the body, helps with digestion, cools us down, makes the blood circulate, and helps remove what the body doesn't need, keeping us healthy and full of energy. — The body loses water all the time (through pee and sweat) and needs to replace it so all the organs work properly.
- Point out the care needed to keep clothes and shoes clean and in a good state of preservation.
Answer: Clothes: wear clean clothes every day, change your underwear and socks daily, put dirty clothes in the hamper, wash them with soap and let them dry well before putting them away, and fold them or hang them in the closet. Shoes: clean off the dirt and dust, let them air out and dry so they don't get smelly or moldy, wear clean socks, store them in a dry place, and be careful not to ruin them (don't step in puddles unnecessarily). That way everything lasts longer and stays fresh and nice. — Clean and well-cared-for clothes and shoes prevent bad smells, germs, and mold, and they last much longer.
