- Memorize 1 Cor. 6:19 and 20.
Answer: The verse (1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20) says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in us, and that we do not belong to ourselves: we were bought at a great price (Jesus). That is why we should take good care of our body and glorify God with it. It means that taking care of our health is a way to thank and honor God. — The verse teaches that taking care of your body is a way to honor God, who lives in us.
- Describe a proper diet and list the basic food groups.
Answer: A good diet is varied and colorful: we eat a little from each group every day, drink plenty of water, and avoid overdoing sweets and fried foods. The basic food groups are: 1) fruits and vegetables (vitamins); 2) cereals, breads, rice, and pasta (energy); 3) beans, eggs, milk, meats, and nuts (proteins, to grow); 4) healthy fats and oils (in small amounts). — Eating a little from each group gives your body everything it needs to grow up healthy.
- Explain why your body needs exercise.
Answer: The body needs exercise because it makes the heart and muscles strong, helps you breathe better, gives you energy and a good mood, helps you sleep well, and keeps the body healthy. When we play, run, and move around, the body becomes stronger and full of energy. — Movement strengthens the heart and muscles and keeps the body healthy and energetic.
- Record the hours you sleep and explain why you need rest.
Answer: Write down for a few days the time you went to sleep and the time you woke up (children need about 9 to 11 hours a night). We need rest because while we sleep the body recovers its energy, grows, the brain rests and stores what we have learned, and we become healthier, happier, and ready for the new day. — During sleep the body recovers, grows, and the brain rests.
- Explain why your body needs fresh air and sunlight.
Answer: The body needs fresh air because we breathe in clean oxygen that gives life and energy to the body and brain. And it needs sunlight because it helps the body make vitamin D, which keeps bones and teeth strong, improves your mood, and helps you sleep well. That is why it is good to play outdoors, with the morning sun and in moderation. — Fresh air brings oxygen, and the sun helps bones become strong (vitamin D).
- Explain why water is important for your body and say how many glasses of water you should drink each day.
Answer: Water is important because our body is made mostly of water: it helps the blood flow, carries food to the whole body, helps with digestion, cools us down, cleans us on the inside, and keeps us energized. Children should drink about 6 to 8 glasses of water a day (even more on hot days or when they play a lot). — Almost the whole body is made of water, so we need to replace it by drinking several glasses a day.
- Describe and demonstrate how to practice good dental hygiene.
Answer: With the help of an adult: 1) put a little toothpaste on the brush; 2) brush your teeth with gentle up-and-down movements, on the front and back; 3) brush your tongue too; 4) do this at least 2 times a day (in the morning and before bed) for about 2 minutes; 5) use dental floss to clean between your teeth and rinse with water; 6) change the brush when it wears out. Show how it's done by brushing your teeth, showing each step. — Brushing well and using dental floss removes the dirt and protects your teeth from cavities.
- Name three harmful things that destroy your health.
Answer: Three harmful things that are bad for your health are: 1) cigarettes (smoking); 2) alcoholic drinks (like beer and other drinks with alcohol); 3) drugs. Overdoing sweets, sodas, and very greasy foods is also bad. These things damage the body, and that is why we should stay away from them so we can be healthy. — Cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs poison the body and harm your health.
- Take part in the physical exercises of the Adventurer Club or in other places.
Answer: With your unit or family: 1) go to the Adventurer Club meetings and take part in the gymnastics, marches, games, and races; 2) if your club doesn't have any, play outdoors at home or at school (jump rope, run, play ball, dance); 3) wear comfortable clothes and shoes and drink water; 4) do this with joy and in a group. The important thing is to move and have fun moving your body. — Taking part in group exercises makes your body strong and is fun too.
