Skating Honor

Recreational Activities

Requirements

  1. Know how to state the safety rules for using skates. List the care that should be taken with this type of equipment.

    Answer: Safety rules: 1) Always wear a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards; 2) Skate in a flat, smooth place away from cars; 3) Tie the skates well before starting; 4) Look ahead and respect the others. Caring for the equipment: 1) Keep the skates clean and dry; 2) Check that the wheels and screws are firm; 3) Do not let them get wet or sit in strong sun; 4) Tell an adult if something breaks. — The pads prevent injuries in falls, and taking good care of the skates makes them last and work safely.

  2. Explain at least one game that is played on skates.

    Answer: A game on skates is "skate tag": one child is chosen as the tagger and, gliding on skates, tries to touch the other friends, who are also on skates and try to run away. Whoever is touched becomes the new tagger. Everyone must wear a helmet and the pads and play in a flat, safe place. — Games on skates help you train your balance and have fun in a group safely.

  3. Demonstrate skill in the following maneuvers:
    • Stand still, motionless, on skates, without leaning on anything;
    • Move forward from the previous position and stop without leaning on anything;
    • Swerve around obstacles placed in your path, first to their right side and then to their left side;
    • Change your direction to 180 degrees (about-turn) relative to your original movement. This turn must be done first to the left and then to the right;
    • Move backward from the first position listed here and stop without leaning on anything.

    Answer: With an adult nearby and wearing all the pads: 1) Put on the skates and stand in a flat place, with your feet a little apart and your knees slightly bent to balance without holding on to anything; 2) Push gently with one foot at a time to move forward and, to stop, bring your feet together or use the heel brake; 3) Place a few cones (or bottles) on the ground and practice going past them on one side and then the other; 4) Practice turning your body slowly to make a half-turn, first to the left and then to the right; 5) Lastly, carefully glide back a little and stop. Practice each step several times until you feel steady. — Practicing each move calmly and with pads helps you gain balance and confidence on skates.
