Requirements

  1. Know the names of five Adventist pioneers who worked (or work) in your country. Tell something about the missionary life of each of them.

    Answer: Five Adventist pioneers in Brazil: 1) Guilherme Stein Jr. - he was one of the first Brazilians to accept the Adventist message; 2) Albert Bachmeier - a colporteur who sold books that helped spread the faith; 3) Frank Westphal - the first Adventist pastor officially sent to Brazil, who organized the first churches; 4) Huldreich Graf - a missionary who worked planting churches in the south of the country; 5) Leo Halliwell - he built the boat Luzeiro to bring health and the Bible to the river people of the Amazon. You can also research, together with your pastor, pioneers from your own region. — The pioneers were brave people who brought and spread the Adventist message in Brazil many years ago.

  2. Know the names of at least five former pastors of your church or district.

    Answer: How to find out with an adult: 1) Ask your current pastor or the elders which pastors took care of the church before him; 2) Talk with older members, they remember many pastors; 3) Look at old photos or church records; 4) Write down the names of at least five and try to memorize them. There you go, now you know the story of your church's pastors! — Getting to know the pastors who have served helps us value the history and the care that the church has always had for people.

  3. Learn an old Adventist hymn and know how to sing it by heart.

    Answer: How to do it with an adult: 1) Choose an old and well-known hymn from the Adventist Hymnal, like 'I Know Whom I Have Believed', 'All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name' or 'A Mighty Fortress'; 2) Listen to the melody a few times with an adult or in the hymnal; 3) Read the lyrics and sing along several times; 4) Practice until you can sing it by yourself, without looking at the lyrics. There you go, sing it by heart for your family! — Singing a hymn by heart helps keep beautiful messages of praise to God in our heart.

  4. Know the names of five Ellen White books published in your language.

    Answer: Five books by Ellen White in English: 1) The Desire of Ages (talks about the life of Jesus); 2) Steps to Christ (teaches how to get close to God); 3) Patriarchs and Prophets (tells stories from the Old Testament); 4) The Great Controversy (talks about the battle between good and evil); 5) The Ministry of Healing (teaches about health). These books help many people get to know Jesus. — Ellen White was an Adventist writer who wrote many books about Jesus, the Bible, and healthy living.

  5. Know the history of your church:
    • How it was founded;
    • The names of two pioneers;
    • How long it has been meeting at its current location;
    • How it was founded.

    Answer: How to find out with an adult: 1) How it was founded: ask the pastor or the older members how your church started (in what year and by whom); 2) Names of two pioneers: find out the names of two people who helped found or start the church; 3) How long it has been meeting at the current place: ask in what year the church started meeting in today's building and count how many years it has been. Write everything down and tell your instructor! — Knowing the history of your own church helps us value the people who worked hard so that it could exist today.
